When I was thinking about what to get my other half for Christmas I wanted to do something personal. I didn't want to buy something, so I decided to make something instead. I chose to make it about something that we love doing together and one of those things is playing Guild Wars 2. The idea started around a pack of playing cards, i was going to hand draw or use images from the game for each suite. I went against this idea (I don't know why it seemed much simpler in the long run) I instead went with the idea to make a personalised monopoly game around GW2.
I started around the end of September or mid way through October and finished on the week before Christmas. It was stressful, crazy and i questioned my self a lot! but I will also say it was enjoyable, I taught my self a few things along the way and I wouldn't change it for the world!
I printed out a London based monopoly board (The one I'm used to) and wrote all the places I wanted around the board next to the originals.
The houses and hotels are made of hard plastic, these images were printed on plastic sheets and shrunk in the oven to harden)
The playing pieces are made out of air dry clay and hand painted to look like the girl and boy Quaggans.
The money are the same colours as original but the images changed on the front.
The chest cards are now 'Black lion chest' and the question mark cards are now 'Commander' cards.
The property cards follow the same prices as original but i changed the housing system slightly where you have to collect all 4 tokens to make a guild; the guild being the hotel.
Below is a small video of me testing the opening of the board. Is is made out of 6mm thick wood and black tape.
